Why is your skim school free?

Great Question. Reliance Skim School was launched in 2004 by local skimboarder Pete Green with the sole purpose of SERVING the local community. We are supported by several awesome and generous local businesses and churches.

In short, Reliance Skim School is a very unique community service. Each skim session consists of teaching skimboarding skills, while providing an encouraging, positive, and very fun environment. That is it.

At the end of the year we will accept donations to do something nice for the instructors who are 100% volunteers. Pretty cool huh? ...that the instructors (high school and college students) give of their time to teach you what they know!

I always wanted to learn but don't have a board?
No problem! Thanks to Zap Skimboards We have lots of extra boards. Just come on out and stop worrying about it. You are going to have a blast.
Who is going to teach me how to skim?

Reliance Skim School has some of the areas best competitive local high school and college age skimmers, all of whom are volunteers. Almost all of our Instructors compete in skimboarding contests up and down the East Coast. We work really hard to make sure that you are placed with an instructor that suits your skill level.

The bottom line is... our crew totally rocks and you will have a blast hanging out with your Reliance Instructor!

Can I use Instructor Chuck's board?

Uuh, no.

What is wrong with the Skim director Pete?

We're really not sure what is wrong with Pete. It may be a chemical imbalance or something.

I am an experienced skimmer. Can you actually help me advance?

Yes. Our instructors are sic! They are among the best local skimmers around. Almost all of our instructors are competitive skimboarders who compete in contests up and down the East Coast. We can teach you lip tricks, liners in both directions, wraps  in both directions, ...almost anything!

We strongly suggest that if you are advanced that you stay for the advanced skim session at 7:30 pm for more intense instruction.

Parents; please do not drop off a young, beginner skimmer to the 7:30 session as this is a fast paced, hard core skim session. Anyone and everyone is welcome to watch during this session or skim near the advanced skimmers but the 6:00 time is the one for young and beginner skimmers.

How do I register?

Registration takes place beachside the first day of skim school which is June 10th. Everyone is required to sign a registration card. A parent is required to sign your registration card if you are under 16.

**Parents: Please do not drop your skimmer off if you have not registered and he or she is under the age of 16. Reliance Skim School is not responsible or liable for any injuries to you or your child. Skimboarding is an extreme sport that comes with the risk of injury. Reliance Skim School is a non profit community service and any and all attendees attend at their own risk. The registration card simply gives us numbers to call if you child is injured.**

I have never skimmed before. Can you actually teach me how?

Absolutely. Our methods of instruction are very, very effective. Really! We may have to trademark our beginner teaching method. We will teach you all of the basics starting with getting on the board correctly. With our system you WILL advance quickly

We guarantee that you will skim by the end of your first day or your money back! Well, it's free but you get the point.
